I previously suffered from severe bouts of acid reflux until I met Mr Goldsmith. My GP had tried to manage my symptoms through different PPI medication. Initially I was prescribed 20mg daily of Omeprazole which worked fine for around 12 months but then the effect of this began to fade and my dosage was increased to 40mg a day. This provided some short term relief but then even 40mg of Omeprazole didn’t work so my GP changed me to 30mg daily of Lansoprazole, this didn’t work either so the dosage was increased to 60mg daily. This did provide some relief and largely kept the reflux under control, however at 41 years of age I did not want to spend a lifetime on such a high dose PPI. It was at this point I decided to look into surgical options. After researching the pro’s/cons of a Nissen fundoplication, Stretta and the Linx, I came to the opinion that either Stretta or Linx was the way to go. I looked into hospitals that offered the Linx and the Stretta procedure and discovered that the Spire Manchester offered both and had a specialist reflux clinic. They initially organised a Gastroscopy, oesophageal manometry and a 48hr Bravo PH study to get some actual data on what was going on with my reflux. Dr Geraghty was the physician who organised the tests and came to the conclusion that surgery was the way forward. Although he did the Stretta procedure he felt based on my test results and profile, I would get more long term benefit from a Linx. He referred me to the surgeon Mr Paul Goldsmith who quickly organised an admission date for Linx surgery. I’m now 17 weeks post surgery and I’m eating a normal diet, I no longer take any PPI medication and I’m no longer having to prop myself up in bed at night . I am living my life as I did before I developed reflux issues. My experience of Mr Goldsmith mirrors that of the reviews below. He is an excellent surgeon and would recommend to others who are considering Linx. My surgery has been a success and I would have no hesitation in recommending speaking to Mr Goldsmith if you suffer from reflux.

One of the best decisions I have made was getting in touch with the Reflux Clinic at the Spire Manchester. I have suffered with acid related problems and a burning sensation in the oesophagus. I was taking tablets to help but was still having a great deal of discomfort. A full investigation into my symptoms was carried out and after an oesophageal manometry and gastroscopy/bravo capsule, I decided to go ahead with Linx surgery alongside a hiatus hernia repair. I had two appointments prior to the keyhole surgery with Mr. Goldsmith. He explained the procedure really well and put my mind at rest. I found Mr. Goldsmith to be really friendly, he has a super way of explaining all aspects of the Linx. Throughout this period I could contact Mr. Goldsmith with any queries that I had. On the day, prior to the operation Mr. Goldsmith came to see me putting my mind at rest with any queries that I had. He also spoke to me following the procedure. I was in hospital overnight, the following morning Mr. Goldsmith visited me again to make sure I was OK. When discharged, I was given pain relief medication if required. It’s just over three weeks since the procedure, no reflux, no tablets. I am now eating normally. I had had a follow up consultation and was shown photos of the Linx and the hernia repair. I cannot recommend Paul Goldsmith enough, he is so professional, caring, and so easy to talk too.

I contacted Mr Goldsmith due to significantly increasing acid reflux and stomach issues, having been on PPI's for the last 17 years. Mr Goldsmith was thorough in our discussions and I always felt in control of the situation, with him advising and supporting. After an oesophagal manometry and gastroscopy/bravo capsule, I decided to go ahead with Linx surgery alongside a significant hiatus hernia repair. I couldn't be happier with the outcome and work of Mr Goldsmith. I am currently 3 weeks post-surgery and following the operation, it was like someone had flicked a switch in my stomach. I immediately stopped taking PPI tablets and have not had a single twinge of acid reflux since. Quite simply, he knows exactly what he is doing with Linx and his work has been amazing. I am still working on reducing or eliminating 1 related stomach issue - due to his wealth of experience, when I mentioned this to Mr Goldsmith he immediately had suggestions. I have previously had appointments with 2 gastro NHS consultants, neither of who suggested anything to help. Going with Mr Goldsmith for my surgery was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I’m generally not one to write reviews, but in the instance I feel its the justified thing to do. Mr Paul Goldsmith carried out a Inguinal Hernia repair on me, I was in a hospital in Jakarta and decided for my recovery it would be better carried out in Manchester near my family. One of the best choices I have made. I was scheduled in for the operation withIn days of landing, during this Covid pandemic that was no easy task. Credit to all involved in my care, administration to get me in, the numerous pre op tests, the operation and post operation care all were carried out professionally and with my health top priority. The overnight stay was comfortable, food, room, staff, bed all top quality. The recovery has been as expected with the severity of the Hernia, pretty slow. Throughout this is have had contact with Paul and his team. I am now just short of a month after the operation so no hasty review for the sake of it. Paul carried around a fit to fly so I could return home to Asia and gave me clear instructions on what to do, what not to do, and tips to make my travel easier. This was priceless. If like me, you need a Hernia operation get in touch with Mr Paul Goldsmith. My only regret is I didn’t make contact sooner. Mr Paul Goldsmith - I salute you. Thank You Sir !

Dr Goldsmith is by far the best Dr I have ever been treated by. After years of being signed off by various gastro specialists and even being accused of my symptoms being psychosomatic he was the first Dr to actually listen to me. Every interaction I had with him was concise and to the point. He asked direct questions and knew immediately what tests I would need to get to the bottom of my stomach issues. After 16 years of going round in circles he found out exactly what was wrong and organised an operation date almost immediately. The operation went incredibly well and his care and attention to every detail was second to none. His kind but professional manner has always put me at ease and restored my faith and trust in the medical profession.
